+P Throating Applications

+P Throating Applications

After fielding like a hundred questions about +P throating I decided to sit down and collect up all of our research and prior +P modified rounds. In short the +P modification is a benefit if there is sufficient capacity left in the case at the current load. For example, if you have a round with your pet load that uses 97% of the usable case capacity with the bullet seated then there is enough room for the additional powder that the +P mod would require. Below I have listed most of the rounds we have modified with the +P throat and the results. There are very few rounds / load combinations that the +P mod doesn’t show some benefit. Most rounds using the same powder and allowing that there is enough capacity like we have already talked about will see 100-150 fps increase in velocity. Here is the data I collected so far here at the shop.

A side note here during this testing is that the heavier and longer bullets show more benefit than shorter lighter bullets. There is still benefit in the +P throat for the lighter bullets, but not as high of a percentage of increase in velocity. Hope this info helps to answer some questions and clear the air about +P modified throats.
